The Washington Jazz Society is looking forward to an exciting 2016. Our mission is to promote jazz in the tri-county area to provide a venue for concerts by local and national jazz musicians and to provide educational programs and seminars for youth as well as adults. The Jazz Society is committed to celebrating Americas' music as we look to the future of the ever evolving music called Jazz.
Our new and revitalized Board is developing added and innovative jazz offerings in 2016 and beyond. We continue our jazz performances every Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 9:00 at Al' an Rubens Bar and Grill, 2390 Jefferson Avenue, Washington; a warm and intimate setting. And now every weekend you can enjoy our Sunday Jazz Brunch from 11:00 - 2:00 at the Presidents Pub at 88 North Main Street in downtown Washington.
In the future we plan to offer a series of educational seminars for Junior and Senior Highschool students and interested adults which will include the history of Jazz and hands-on fundamentals of improvisation. We would like to fill some of the void left by the demise of Wash Arts.
We are happy to announce that we will be awarding scholarship assistance to a deserving High School Senior from our area who intends to pursue an education in music.
Our Sunday Jazz Brunches have introduced a whole new public to our efforts and have done much to increase financial support through the sponsorships and memberships. The dues for membership in the Washington Jazz Society are $50 per year. In support of our efforts, Mark Kennison, owner of The Presidents Pub, provides a $50 gift certificate to the Presidents Pub if you join at one of our Sunday Jazz Brunches.
